Just a quick question. Does anyone use a cover for their SYMs if they store it outside? is there any particullar one that has a personal recomendation. Have looked at a couple online. The Oxford range seem very popular. Looking to pay up to £100 for a good quality one as it will be in daily use.
Many Thanks
Freddie

Many Thanks Freddie My symply lives outside under an Oxford Aquatex cover, paid about £50. Its designed for a bigger bike than mine but does the job. I use a long bungee as well hooked on the centre stand on either side and over the seat to stop the wind getting under and lifting off the back. Really protects from all types of weather, bear in mind that bright sun can cause fading to paint and plastic! Mine isn't as waterproof as it was but still about 98% good so I might get a new one for next winter. One thing I do if its been covered for a while when the air is dampish is take the cover off for a couple of hours. Turn the cover inside out and let the air get to it and gives the scooter a bit of air as well. I'm a caring owner!!! Oh yes and Mr Cat likes to sit on top especially when its nice and sunny.

My Sym lives outside, there is a covered parking area and I leave the bike on the edge of it as I can see it from my window. This means the rain gets to it a bit but I'm more concerned about security so it's a trade off I'm happy with. Only put a cover on once but it came loose during a windy day acted like a sail and pulled the bike over (no damage thankfully), so I approach with caution now. If you look after your bike I'm not sure a cover makes a huge difference. Here is my bike parked up and viewed from my window this evening...

Looks like the Orbit is trying to hide from you mate. Your right about the security though a decent chain is a must! Mines secured to a wall anchor with a chain that's as heavy as the scooter!

I've got 3 chains on mine. One old one through the back wheel with an Oxford Boss lock, a heavy duty one through the front wheel with heavy duty padlock and a long heavy duty chain around the body with another Oxford Boss lock. The two front chains are around one of my buildings main supports. Had my Honda Vision stolen last summer when I went for cheaper security options, that won't be happening this year !!!

Many thanks for replies. Will be having a good old think a bit later on making my mind up. I tend to be a bit of a fuss pot and ditherer before making a purchase.A very annoying habit. Regarding security i have a hefty chain looped around the cast iron down pipe that is embedded into the concrete and attach that to a d-lock that i slide through the rear wheel.Up front i have a 'Grip lock' which i purchased on collecting the SYM. As the salesman said they are good to deter the opportunist thief as it locks the front brake on and the throttle cannot be opened.Thankfully i am a a little rural in location so the only people who tend to venture down the lane to the cottages are the residence and not prying eyes.
Anyway once again, many thanks and wishing you all a peaceful weekend

Bit late to the party as always...But I've gone through 2 covers in the 4 years I've had my bike. I bought an Oxford one and its lasted significantly longer than the others. Not even any signs of wear yet! My bike is large and rather heavy so choose carefully if yours is not.

Not even any signs of wear yet! My bike is large and rather heavy so choose carefully if yours is not. My cover is large for my scooter but it does the job! Main thing I notice is how the black is fading to grey! (I remember a song about that by Visage I think from my 20's). It certainly helps protect not just against the wet stuff but also that rarely seen yellow disc in the sky! My scooter is locked to an east facing wall which means it gets loads of sun on it in the morning. And that will fade paintwork very quickly especially the black plastic. If its been covered for a few days in the damp I like to take the cover off to air it a bit, if you know what I mean. Of course the best way to air it is by taking it for a spin! All these desicions we have to make its tough being a Symite! Have fun out there and take care!

My longest ride in one go(well 2 short stops) at the shops today on the Symply. When using an online km to miles converter it was a total of 28 miles and every thing was running nicely. My end choice for a cover was an Oxford Stormex and went for the medium size on advise from the Sales man if future adds such as top boxes etc are to be added.Looking at it fitted would say that was a good choice size wise. Two linked bungey cords around the middle to be extra safe if the wind pops up.
Anyway folks back to the Workshop for another hour or so on the workbench (self employed) custom made Dolls House/Furniture Maker being my wage earner.
All the Best to you all

All the Best to you all That's not a bad way to earn a living mate! I'm not very creative myself. Had a look at the Stormex cover, looks spot on mate, mine the Rainex which is the one below that.

Certainly is a relaxing job.Nothing better than knowing i can hide myself away for a few hours a day in the workshop and earn a wage. Have to admit it took many years of living frugal to get into the position where you can accept that you may work for several months without seeing a penny and rely on the end payment. As long as i am in for the Ken Bruce morning show and Pop Master at 10:30am on R2 then the life is complete. If i score 3 it's good.Anything above 10 and i break out in a chorus of 'We Are The Champions' :-)
