Hi gang how's things in Sym land . I'm still enjoying the jaunt to work on the Symply 50 but am thinking of getting a little more speed as it only hits 33 tops.
I've been on Youtube and have seen peeps changing over the cdi units on their bikes..any idea if this will speed things up ?
Thanks guys
Lloydy

Hi Lloyd My simply was derestricted by the dealer when I bought it, I'm not sure if they replaced the cdi with a different one or what. The salesman said something about removing a washer in the exhaust but as I say he was the salesman not the mechanic. My scooter is able to do over 40mph according to the speedo but how accurate that is I don't really know, it's plenty fast enough for me though. I wonder if anyone else here knows the score with regards to this. I think it is safer with it derestricted as it enables me to keep up with the flow of the traffic especially as I do need to use a faster stretch of road. People will try and get past you whether there is room to do so or not if they get held up so it is worth doing. Sorry I can't be more specific than that mate. You don't want to spend money nothing after all! Don't know if your dealer would do it or not (for a price) but it might be worth asking if you get no joy here. jenksy

Hows it going Jenksy ?
Thanks for reply mate. Yes as I might have mentioned before the dealer is a money grabbing snake and wanted a ton to de-ristrict my new ped so left that well alone.
Its just that I've seen a few different ways to do things these days . I saw a vid on youtube how to do the washer thing ..might give that a go it looks easy..ish ;0)
Hope you're well mate

Hi Lloyd Things are fine with me thanks mate. Had a quick look myself on the web, so many different posts about derestricting Symply scooters it's hard to know what's what! Saw the you tube video about the cdi replacement, seems to make sense to me. Let us know how you get on mate it's always good to know if things work out alright, like I said they only mentioned the washer to me and did it for free before I picked it up so it can't be to hard (famous last words) or they would have made me pay for it. jenksy

I don't know how new your Symply is, but just so you are aware: While reading my (really badly translated)owners manual i could swear i read something about it voiding your warranty if the work is not done by an SYM approved mechanic. But de-restricting would be the way to go, especially if, as Jenksy says, you have to use faster pieces of road.

Hi Bailo sorry for late reply mate . The bike is just bought in Feb this year so might give it a bash and derestrict it at the weekend.Could do with a few more mph Hi LLoyd just noticed your post regarding CDI unit. I also had a silly price plan from dealer when asking to de-restrict on purchase last November. After doing a bit of research and hearing that buying a De-restricted CDI unit that is not Genuine SYM through The web was a bit risky as many are AC when DC is required and they do not state which they are.Anyway eventually came across Ray Williams Motorcycles in Wales 01544 774814 through E-Bay who was selling Genuine SYM unrestricted CDI's.Ordered one, it arrived as a genuine SYM part.Easy enough to fit....So results. The restriction on the rev limit was removed so reaching 40 mph on a good flat road was not a problem.Do remember though that 50cc 4 stroke engines are by nature under powered so if the road is hilly or on a constant climb speed will still be pretty much as you would expect from a 4t 50cc engine....slow.Worth doing though if have a run of 40mph roads and want to keep as best with traffic. Take care and enjoy :-)

Jonscoot hows it going sir ? Thanks for your post mate. I'm glad that you had a result with your Sym and it now goes a bit faster. Like you said ..I know its not going to perform uphill in any different way but being a proper Sym part says it all for me. Will give this guy a call or visit online and defo check that part out... seems like the best way forward.
All the best,
Lloyd

Seems a nice easy job. Certainly makes it safer if you can get to 40mph when necessary. I find I need to have a plan for some of the hills, 4 stroke 50cc scooters are not the swiftest when going up! If I have to stop at the roundabout at the bottom of Townhill Way I'll be lucky to reach 24/25 by the top. The only thing that goes slower (apart from pedestrians )is the number 8 bus! The other thing with speed and 50cc scooters is the fact that when you start trying to squeeze even more mph out of them you must shorten the engine life considerably, they are having to work quite hard enough as it is. Stay safe on those mean streets!
