Morning all,
Noticed that the wee Sym has started to sound a bit noisier recently. No noticeable drop in performance, in fact since the weather got milder it's been starting on the button and raring to go. Last weekend I sprayed some anti corrosion spray on the exposed metal including the exhaust. Out of interest I started the bike up and it looked like the spray was being blown away from the area where the exhaust bolts onto the bike so I'm guessing there may be a slight gap near the gasket area. Ordered up a tube of hi-temp exhaust putty so going to try a bit of that. If that doesn't work I may have to get it looked at. The exhaust bolts are pretty rusty and awkward to get at so I'm reluctant to try removing the exhaust myself as I may do more harm than good...
Have a good day all, beautiful morning in Edinburgh.

Know what you mean mate. Its easy to break a stud they ain't that big either! The same if you need the back wheel off as well to change brake shoes! Sometimes worth getting things done by the professionals and paying a few quid!

Be warned do not break an exhaust stud and have to have it removed and new one fitted by a local Dealer or an engineering firm. I know of a KYMCO owner who has had that just done and he went for the cheapest price he was quoted by the local Dealer....Sit down, £175.00 to have a new stud drilled out and replaced. That was just one.

Thanks guys, sound advice as always. I'll try the putty but if no joy then off to my local bike garage it goes.

Well that's the Sym booked into a local bike garage for next Thursday morning. Decided just to get a full service done and check out the engine noise issue. Got it's first MOT coming up in August and it will be getting used for longer runs over the summer so seems a good time to let the professionals give it the once over. I'll let you know how it goes, and what it costs...

That price does not surprise me in the least with Workshop hourly rates now a days. I have local elderly Lady who has an old Yamaha QT50 moped she has had since new 86 c plate i do odd jobs or service work on it for her. If she took it to a shop for work it would be more than the bike is worth just for a service. I normally just ask her to bake me one of her rather wonderful carrot cakes in return.

Just to say as well when it comes to seized or very rusty bolts. With all these products such as wd40 or gt85 on the market, worth using as they work well but it is worth allowing a day or two with regular squirts onto the offending part to allow the liquid to really do it's job.Worth keeping a pot of anti seize copper based grease in the toolbox instead of the usual high melting point stuff.
Cheers
