The lad thought i was pulling his leg when i asked him to get my box of left handed drill bits. Think he was a bit surprised when i showed him how they worked on a broken exhaust stud.Set the drill straight and drill slowly into the remains of the stud. Because the bit is cut to drill in whilst rotating to the left when it catches the stud it unscrews it from the casing.Just a tip if you have the problem of broken bolts in the future got to be very straight and take it easy though

That's a new one on Jenksy as well! Nice to see lads getting their hands dirty. Always remember when we went to my nippers options evening many years ago (he's 28 next week!). They were going on and on about college and university and all that. Then one of the department heads said "of course those who are less able will be your plumbers and electricians and manual workers". Bloody cheek! Oh yes what a piece of cake it is keeping the power going on the railways!!! I WISH. I think as well in the trades there is much more personal satisfaction to be gained, nearly 40 years and I still enjoy going to work. Well 98℅ of the time! Keep him inspired mate, nice to be able to work alongside your own nipper!

Does make you wonder what the Kid's heads get filled with now a days.Just seems to be a case of spend early Adult life in a classroom to become another over qualified member of the dole queue with debts to pay. No one seems to want to get their hands dirty now a days which as i say to the Lad is fine with me as that is where the money is.Always tell the Lad pick a trade that is hands on because in time computers will take over the white collar man behind his desk.

My lad is not the most practical bloke in the world (he is a manager in a fashion retailer, his branch has a turn over of around £5 million a year!), but he sort of has a go. He was having trouble drilling a hole in a wall so I had a look. He had the drill in reverse! He was quite p'd off. But like I said if you haven't been told you won't know! He did want me to help him put in a new bathroom and tile it! I did my own many years ago. But last time I payed to have it done 4 days start to finish and much better than I could do it! Worth every penny. I'm afraid my big d.i.y jobs are long gone! New kitchen was put in when we went on holiday! Very smart (and pricey). So he did the same his (real) dad knew someone so he had a nice new bathroom and shower. We lent him some cash and so did my dad but he has paid it back so I don't mind. I know we aren't all handy but you need to have a go when your younger. Scooter mechanicing ok, but I know I won't be able to do everything. All the basics are fairly simple. It only went to the shop once for a £72 first service, in other words an oil change!! Now wonder they went out of business! Trouble is who do you trust these days? Due the 5000km now so I'll do both oils, check the plug,(new one next time). Check my brakes, belt and all the drive stuff. Hoses and pipes and nuts and bolts. Want to see if I can figure out the valve checking but I'll actually check that after my hols if I can work out how to get the side cover off! Got a new fuel filter but one side looks bigger the one that's on there! Air filter is 8 months old so I'll give it a blow and put a new one in next time! Phew I'm worn out just writing that, that should keep me busy on Sunday! Have fun all!
