Visited a couple of shops today to see what I could get myself for my birthday. In the first shop I saw this

which is the Sym Citycom (sorry I didn't get a photo of the actual bike ) it was reasonably priced but the owner wouldn't do a deal on my Fiddle and the Skull Bike. I headed up to Dundee where I was introduced to this bike
wk-gtr-300-scooter-big-wheels-1 by nine_of_diamonds, on Flickr
the WK GTR 300 (again, not a photo of the actual bike 'cause the one I saw was in a catalogue ). The salesman gave me a good price for the Fiddle but also took the Skull Bike of my hands. So the winner is Skinner Motorcycles, Dundee and I take possession of the WK next week sometime all going well. Which means I have joined the ranks of Ex-Sym riders all because the first shop wouldn't give me a good deal. The other thing that swayed me towards the WK was the flat floor, no hump to lift my bad leg over

We have a WK dealer near us, they are a garden machinery place really but do scooters as well. Don't look bad machines from what I've seen and the GTR looks very tidy. Not found any reviews or anything much about the brand though. See what you mean about the flat floor, does make life easier. Glad you got a good deal and look forward to hearing what its like. No deserting us now, Sym or not, once a symite always a symite! Oh yes, happy birthday!

Looks good, is this in addition to the MP3 ?? WK seem to get decent reviews so should be fine.

I am actually trying to cut down on my bikes which is why I traded in two of them towards this one. When this one arrives it will mean I am down to three bikes (two scooters, one bike) in my garage. At present I have a Sym 125 Fiddle (now traded in), a Huoniao 125 (converted to a 150 also traded), the MP3, a Skyteam Raptor 250 (which is only a 225 and at present is sitting in Skinners in Dundee getting work done to it). My insurance and road tax are getting ridiculous which is why I REALLY need to cut down my habit. I should never have stopped smoking, at least back then I couldn't afford as many toys.

The guy I introduced thosoneill rides a Symciti, which was why I was interested in getting one, he had nothing but glowing reports about it. On Scottish Bikers he put up photos of where he had taken it. I would NEVER have trusted the 125 Fiddle to do that mileage in one day.

Did my CBT on that model at the weekend, a smart scoot, sturdy and easy to ride with a good turn of speed.

On Scottish Bikers he put up photos of where he had taken it. I would NEVER have trusted the 125 Fiddle to do that mileage in one day. I know what you mean there. 50cc scooters are great for short commutes (10/15 miles and under). The Fiddle and Symply and i would think the Jet125s give you a bit more scope with a better turn of speed for longer trips and commutes. The GTS 125 seems to be a smaller engine tourer type and probably able to cope quite easily with proper long outings. Mind you our old mate Jonscoot did some proper epic journeys on his Symply 50! But if you want to do proper touring a GTS type 125 would be the smallest you'd want (liquid cooled as well I think). Are all the larger scooters liquid or air cooled? Makes a difference I would think. Mind you my Honda CB 200 bike (nearly 40 years ago) was air cooled. Only had it for about 6-9 months I never really took to biking. I'm still only a fair weather run around commuter to be honest not a proper 2 wheeler but its fun and that's what counts in my book! Hope you are all well in Symland, 33°c here in Portugal, Mrs Jenksy is laying on her sunbed and old Jenksy is sat in the shade with a book, holiday packet of ciggies and a cup of coffee. Mrs Jenksy texts me ever now and then so I can go and get her a drink, what a nice hubby I am! Take care all!

Resurrecting an old post - still riding the Sym Citycom - and yes I regularly cover over 200 miles on a rideout - this is achievable on a 125 however you need to be a tad more patient and respect the traffic behind you - pull over and let them pass if you get my drift - I once had my Yamaha ybr in Shetland for a bike rally which was epic - the advantage of the maxi scooter is of course more brake horsepower however for me the high 16 inch wheels is the biggest benefit - the scooter feels much more planted than a small wheeler - I bought the Citycom in June this year with 8000 kilometres on the clock - I've now covered 16000 kilometres and I've not had one issue with the bike - yes I change the oil every 1500 miles and I have fitted a new air filter and spark plug and this week I renewed the front and rear brake pads - I've got a new belt and rollers awaiting fitment - these were purchased from makinaparts.com in Greece - the plug and air filter from eBay - the sun is shining as I lay in my bed composing this - so it's time to get up and give the Citycom a test ride to bed in the new pads - farewell my Symite friends
