I think we all know of dangerous surfaces on roads and places where this type of dressing is hazardous. I did have a response from a Highways Officer at Torbay Council giving the usual 'its cost effective rubbish'. Cost effective for who though? Not the rider who falls off. Just thought I would bring this petition to the attention of the group epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/67408

Good point mate. They did a lot of the roads around us some years back (before I was a scooter rider), and even with my pushbike it was dodgy. The surface needs a lot of "bedding in" and they rely on the traffic to do it! I found I had to be very careful and was forever trying to get bits of tar and chippings off my tyres. I haven't ridden on a dressed surface on my scooter, but when I have to I will probably pee off loads of motorists as I will be ultra cautious! Take care mate!

One of the roads near me that I use sometimes has had this done. I don't know if tar was put down but it was certainly covered in a thin layer of chippings. That road was bad enough with the 10 speed humps it has already, 4 of which are quite severe and have to be taken slowly. They think a few warning signs warning of loose chippings and skid hazards was enough. I haven't skidded on them yet but I find it scary and take extreme care. Some of the other roads are particularly hazardous too as they're literally coming apart. Even car drivers swerve to avoid missing sections.

I just wonder if someone was involved in a fatal accident because of this, whether the contractors or local authorities would be responsible for corporate manslaughter? I know its taking things to the extreme, but when Highways erect signs saying 'Think Bike' you would expect them to think about the effects of the work on two wheeled road users.

I'm forever messaging Wiltshire Council about the state of some of the roads here.
