Hi I'm Kevin I have just recently bought a new symply2 I live in the uk and am new to scootering. Got a scooter for work as I find the hills a bit much on my old bicycle. I'm 52 and have had my sym for about 6 weeks, done about 300 kms so far!

52 eh?
Welcome aboard youngster.
I'm sure its making those hills a bit easier. Things tend to be a bit quiet on this site - I take that as a sign that people generally don't have many problems with Syms. I got mine about 3 months back and it's the most fun I've ever had with my clothes on.
Ride safe

Cheers Dave. Your right about the fun, certainly brings out the little boy in you (well so my mrs says, and who am I to argue). Must admit though that I only ride it in the dry, first sign of rain and its in the Hyundai i20 for me! I spent a whole £4.77 filling it up last week ( the scooter not the car). Do these Syms really need servicing as often as the owners manual say? Seems a bit excesive to me! Make sure you keep your clothes on whilst having fun, have you seen the weather forcast for this week, brass monkeys or what!

I don't know what your manual says about servicing - but after the initial 300km they generally settle down to something sensible.
Mine suggests an oil change each 1000 km, (600 miles) but it's only just over a litre and it's a washable filter so it doesnt cost much. Transmission oil each 5000km I think, and belt and rollers expected to last 12,000 km.
Bikes generally run to a somewhat more rigorous service schedule than cars - cars have always aimed for the golded goal of "once-a-year" service but you can end up paying £40 just for the oil, before anyone changes it for you.
I do my own servicing so it's not much hassle. Do you? The basic things like oil and brake pads are so easy that it seems daft to pay someone else.
I just had a look at the Sym site - this made me smile: "Symply II continues to cater to the younger generation for its stylish light sporty spirits at an affordable price. . . . . . . Symply II fitly embodies the image of youth and vitality! "

Must admit I'm so used to getting the car done once a year I'm a bit lazy. But like you say basic servicing isn't much hassle and certainly not hard so I'll probably do most of it myself. Maybe get a proper job done yearly. I don't think I'll be doing more than about 2k miles a year! Well I'm glad the symply 2 fifty embodies the image of youth and vitality as I think that sums me up to a tee! I'm not sure why my mrs is laughing so loud and has tears streaming down her face. 52 isn't that old.

Hello Lloyd from Essex Nice to see another Symply 50 rider on the block. In my experience its a lot quicker by scooter than car these days for getting to work (or in your case the station). These Syms seem to be fairly good quality and from what I've heard are quite reliable (which in my book is the most important thing). At this rate us Symply 50 boys (and hopefully some girls to) will be taking over the world! Carry on enjoying your scooter and stay safe mate. Jenksy

Nice one Jenksy nice to see another Symply user like yourself sounds like you're having just as much fun as I do even though its just 20mins per day! But cant resist popping out for a cheeky buzz around town at the weekends.
Stay safe too fella

Hi Connor welcome! Got to say i'm not to familiar with the 50cc's that SYM make...but if the 125's are anything to go by then i would imagine they are rather nippy indeed!

Hello, new to forum, just got a GTS 125 evo, (2010)(arrived about 1 hour ago). Looking forward to my first run tomorrow quick question, never had a scooter before, when on the stand, it wont rev above 5000rpm, is this normal. Bike been sitting in storage for 8 months, could this be the cause?

Hello macatto Welcome to the forum mate. The GTS125 is nice looking machine and seems quite popular, a good size scooter and not a bad spec either. Don't know about the thing of not revving above 5000 I'm afraid but I'm sure someone here maybe able to help. Hope you got out for a ride today and that everything is running o.k. Do you ride a lot mate? I'm afraid I get in the car when it rains! Strictly dry weather only for me. Scooters are certainly a good way of getting around and I find it good fun to. I have a Symply2 50cc of pure derestricted power, great fun. Really big hills are a challenge but at least I don't need to peddle. Let us know how your ride went and hope you enjoy your new Sym. Take care. jenksy
