With summer coming and some Sym trips out planned I'm wanting to increase my luggage capacity a bit.
At the moment all I really have is a cheap fluorescent backpack (which carries my lunch into work) and the under seat space, but that has things in it that I like to have with me (tools, a torch, cloth, fuel funnel etc), so not much spare room.
My options seem to be:
A) topbox B) better backpack C) panniers D) tail bag
The bike originally came with a topbox, but it had seen better days so I sold it off for a tenner on Gumtree. Not wild about getting another one as it must lessen the aerodynamic nature of the bike, and with only 50cc (and my bulk) any reduction in speed is not good.
The backpack is becoming the most likely option. The only thing that puts me off slightly is that they can be bad news if you do have an accident and come off.
Panniers seem geared for motorbikes and not scooters. They'd need to be so small to avoid coming near the exhaust that I don't think they'd be worth the bother, and again they are not very aerodynamic.
The tail bag is a possibility but a lot of them don't seem very scooter friendly, bikes have lots of bits of exposed metal to hook them on to but scooters don't.
Can anyone think of anything I've missed, or offer any thoughts or products that work for them - Thanks guys

Think you have covered most of it there mate! The trusty topbox seems the best option, there are some larger capacity ones about. Mines 32 litres which is adequate for me. Know what you mean about loss of speed though especially when you turn a corner straight into a head wind! As you say panniers are more motorbike friendly and not really designed for scooters.

I know this will be no use to you, but, I thought as we are talking about luggage I would show you what I have ordered.
The little one fits on the glove box and the larger one fits on the rear rack by four straps.
Eventually, after I obtain a front rack from somewhere, I am hoping the scooter will look like this

Right decision made, I've ordered the Givi top box. I think it offers a compromise between luggage capacity and rider safety.

Some really good looking stuff about. That certainly makes good use of the space available, very "cool". You can just imagine a mod in a proper parka riding off for a weekend trip! Mind you proper Mods would be well old now!!! I was a teenager when they had the mod revival and I'm always being told what an old fart I am! We saw a chap on his scooter in a well smart parka sometime ago, I said I would quite like one, Mrs Jenksy said " no,you wouldn't". That was that conversation over!

I was a Modette in the 70's. I used to ride an LI 150, looked down upon by the male riders. Yes, I even had the parka.

Ah yes but that was the revival bit! I used to work with a "first time round" mod and he is drawing his old age pension now! I wasn't a mod myself in the 70's but I did have a parka, in fact I had 2! The music was fun as well. Oh my what fun. I didn't leave school until 77 and I liked loads of things but not scooters funny enough. I was 52 before I discovered what fun they are!

Sixpence is right mate, your luggage thread seems to have been hijacked! Oh no, it must be the march of the mods haha! Another wonderful week of Syming to work everyday, great stuff! Even the weekend is looking better than first forecast! Might even take the Symply up to the Ageas Bowl on Sunday for day one of the cricket, was hoping to go on Monday but the boss has no one in then because of weekend stuff going on, so Jenksy is doing overtime! Hope all my fellow Symites have a brilliant weekend.
